Programmable Computing
Programmable computing is the idea of a general-purpose machine whose behavior is set by instructions (a program) rather than fixed hardware. It progressed from mechanical designs to electronic, stored-program computers.

No single inventor: Charles Babbage designed a mechanical general-purpose computer and Ada Lovelace published an early algorithm and foresaw general computation; Alan Turing formalized computability; Konrad Zuse built the first working programmable computer (Z3, 1941); and teams built ENIAC, Colossus, and the first stored-program machines. Electronic computing later depended on the transistor and integrated circuit.
What counts as the invention: Separate the concept (Babbage/Lovelace), the theory (Turing), the first working programmable machine (Zuse), and the stored-program architecture (von Neumann report, EDVAC/others).
